Exercise 2

Make the following changes to the text below using TextWrangler.

You may change both the HTML and CSS for the following:

  1. Add a link to the navigation below that jumps the page down to Section 3 (beginning with “Watkins Campuses”). Section 3 should include all the fictional info at the bottom of the page
  2. Turn “Watkins College of Art, Design and Film” into a live link to watkins.edu wherever the phrase appears. Hint: use Textwrangler's Find/Replace feature.

You may only alter the CSS file for the following:

  1. Make the links in the navigation bold, but don't bold the links on the rest of the page.
  2. The page has many acronyms in all-caps. Reduce the font size of the acronyms and letter-space them as you would in a print piece.
  3. Reduce the amount of space between the h3 subheadings and the paragraphs below them.
  4. Color all the h3 headings in the “factual” section green. Color the “fictional” h3s red.

Mission Statement

Watkins College of Art, Design and Film offers a studio-based curriculum, supported by a strong academic foundation. The faculty and staff are committed to a learning-centered environment that challenges the student to engage the mind, train the eye and cultivate talent and skill into an active realization of creative potential.

Our History

Over a century ago, Samuel Watkins - a former bond servant and self-educated Nashville businessman - envisioned an accessible school that would strengthen the city with free lectures and classes. His hopes were finally realized with the construction of Watkins Institute on his property in 1885. From these humble beginnings evolved one of the finest community-oriented art education facilities in the Mid-South, emerging today as Watkins College of Art, Design and Film.

Watkins Today

The college is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC) and nationally accredited through the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design is additionally accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), formerly known as the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER). Watkins College of Art, Design and Film offers Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degrees in Film, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Fine Arts and Photography, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Art, and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Film.

In addition, Watkins offers many non-credit art and design courses through its Community Education program. This program consists of classes for children, teens and adults.

The Future

With its 60,000 square-foot facility, 2 state-of-the-art residence halls, 13 acres of land and plenty of space to grow, Watkins is ready to face the future while at the same time adhering to the legacy of Samuel Watkins. Watkins College of Art, Design and Film continue to shape and positively influence the cultural horizon and economy of our community through art, design and film.

Our community deserves a nationally recognized college of art and design. The leaders of Watkins have laid the groundwork, and this Nashville tradition is well on its way to fulfilling its mission of producing talented and successful visual artists.

Admissions

The only requirement for application to Watkins is Magical ability. No need to apply! In Watkins there is a magical quill which detects the birth of a magical child anywhere in the British Isles, and writes his or her name down in a large parchment book. Every year Professor McGonagall checks the book, and sends owls to the people who are turning 11. In addition to a letter of acceptance, they will also receive a required supplies list.
